Abstract

Food and Grief in Migrant Literature

The representation of food in literature can take on diverse realistic, connotative or semantic functions, even more so in immigrant writings where the cultural and symbolic values attached to food have a much wider scope. In the essay, works by Italian-American writers Di Donato and Fante are analyzed with regards to culture, ritual and food.
